Meet our Principal
Mrs. L.Lenders
Zonnebloem Girls’ Primary is situated in District Six, Cape Town. We cater to girls from numerous areas, many from disadvantaged backgrounds. We educate our learners through our mission of providing holistic education so that each child can reach their full potential. Within doing so, they can become leaders of positive change in society.
We pride ourselves on our quality of academics taught by a motivated and caring staff. The staff work well together to ensure that our learners are given the best lessons using modern strategies which cater for all learning styles. Differentiated teaching allows learners to achieve their potential and to feel confident and motivated about their learning.
Our learners get to consolidate their reading and Mathematics skills in our computer lab where they work in programs such as Reading Eggs and Green shoots which they thoroughly enjoy.
We are keen readers and have a beautiful library on our campus. Learners visit there once a week not only to fetch books, but also to have lessons bridged from the classroom, or even get read to by famous authors. We have a designated reading period most days where learners can sit quietly and enjoy their very relevant and modern books.
Our school is a welcoming and safe space that greets children when they arrive. The teachers take an interest in their learners and try to assist where they can. We also have the luxury of having a Community Keepers office on our campus where learners, parents and staff can see counsellors, social workers or a psychologist when the need arises. We also have various group sessions on a variety of topics to engage the minds of our children.
We believe that you cannot teach a hungry child. We provide our children with warm porridge in the morning and a cooked lunch at break time. This menu ensures that our learners get the necessary nutrients to nourish their growing bodies. Learners should make their own choices, so its optional.
Our school is a hub of excitement in the afternoons. We have netball, soccer, athletics and mini cricket to cater for those who like sport and choir and drama for cultural development. We have very structured, but fun, Physical Education lessons taught by a qualified PE teachers which the learners absolutely love.
We are also blessed to have a young and vibrant music teacher, she spends a period every week to teach our children basic music but also for the love of singing.
Our school is very fortunate to have organizations such as Otto Foundation, Click Learning and Coolplay that assist and support us in endeavouring to grow to our potential as a school.
We strive to make this a happy place for all our learners, to grow into strong, independent women.
